More Than One Thousand Attend World Premiere of
"Rumi Returning"
The message of peace that flows from the poet Rumi is found in a new film directed by the North American Director Kell Kearns. "Rumi Returning" premiered on Sunday, September 23, at the "World-Wide Inter-Religious Encounter" during the Universal Forum of Cultures in Monterrey.
More than 1,000 people attended the global premiere of "Rumi Returning," which tells the life story of one of the most outstanding poets of the world, who promoted love and religious tolerance.
During the week-long Universal Forum of Cultures Monterrey 2007, this biography of poet Mevlana Jalaludin Rumi, born in 1207 in what was then the Persian Empire (now Afghanistan), was shown for the first time.
The film was directed by North American film director Kell Kearns, who showed in it the beauty of Muslim Sufi poetry during this 800th anniversary year of the poet Rumi.
The new documentary shows Rumi as one of the greatest scholars of his time and includes commentary by contemporary religious experts. One commentator is Muslim Ambassador Akbar Ahmed, who was a featured plenary speaker at the "World-Wide Inter-Religious Encounter".
Kearns' idea was to tell the life story of this Middle Eastern poet, who is the best-selling poet in the West.
"In a time of conflict in the world, the poetry of Rumi is a source of harmony for humanity," explained Kearns.
Cynthia Lukas, Co-Producer, said that when she first read Rumi she truly understood what love is.
"Rumi shows us the sacred in the everyday. He tells us that love can be found in any place and in every person," she said.
The film "Rumi Returning" will continue its premieres around the world. Next it will be shown the 8th of November to open the Rumi Alive Festival at the National Museum of Prague, Czech Republic.
